From our library of things you should know about the Arctic

What the...?!?

Climate changes are disrupting the Arctic environment. Warmer temperatures have reduced ice coverage - thereby affecting the feeding patterns of polar bears and the migration routes of caribou.

But the warmer air also holds more moisture, and one of the more dramatic changes has been the introduction of electrical storms to the area. Thunder and lightning were previously very rare or unknown in the dry Arctic desert air.

The animals become very disturbed. They don't know what to do because they have never before seen lightning bolts or heard the crash of thunder. The storms are freakin' the poor critters out!
