Fact for March 18
Click for more information.

It's Getting Lighter!

On about March 5, it started to get lighter at the North Pole. The Sun was creeping up below the horizon, bringing a period of continuous and ever brightening twilight (such as we see just before the Sun comes up in the morning and just after it sets in the evening) as it neared the horizon.

Sunlight returns to the North Pole on March 18 as the leading edge of the Sun peeks over the horizon. As sunrise is calculated from the leading edge of the Sun, it is officially "up".

It can be seen lurking on the horizon all day. It will keep getting higher until March 20 (Spring Equinox), when a full one half of it can be seen - making it an equal distance from the North Pole and the South Pole.
